Float Therapy

At Holistic Health, we offer you a calm space to relax and unwind. Enjoy the feeling of tranquillity and utter weightlessness while floating in our luxury float therapy room filled with over a tonne of minerals and magnesium. It is your safe space where you can fully rest and eliminate stress.

Unlike traditional float pods, we offer a wide open float therapy pool; which is twice the size of most other float pools/pods and with more than triple the amount of minerals the main mineral being Magnesium.

While you are floating, there are no external disturbances, which means you can rest and enjoy perfect peace and quiet. Whether you are tired, stressed or feel any kind of tension in your mind or body, float therapy is just what you need to restore balance!

What is Floatation Therapy

Float Therapy is designed to put you in a meditative state as you will be protected from all the sensory stimulations and distractions. The goal is to trigger the healing processes in your body while calming your mind and reducing stress or anxiety.

Step inside the optimally heated water enriched with over a tonne of minerals and magnesium; slowly drift away into the theta state of mind. This healing technique will put your brain on autopilot and rejuvenate your body.

The water is ph balanced, heated to match the temperature of your skin and due to the density of the water, upon lying down, your body is able to float effortlessly, freed from gravity and tension and allowing your entire body to relax.

Health Benefits in More Detail

Heart Health

Low levels of magnesium are associated with inflammation which impacts heart health. Research suggests that Magnesium absorbed through the skin and bypassing the gastrointenstinal tract is more beneficial for heart and muscle health than supplements taken orally. One of the essential roles of Magnesium is to regulate muscle function, and the heart is of course a vital organ which also happens to be a muscle.

Pain Management & Reduced Inflammation

During a float session you will be floating weightlessly on your back, taking pressure off your muscles and joints while entering into a state of deep relaxation which allows the body to heal more effectively. Magnesium which is absorbed through the skin has been proven to aid in pain management, muscle repair and recovery and reduced inflammation within the body.

Increase Energy Level's

Magnesium is used to create ‘energy’ in your body by activating adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the master energy molecule for humans. ATP is only bioactive and can be used when bound to magnesium3. Therefore, without sufficient magnesium you can’t provide sufficient biologically active ATP. In fact, low levels of magnesium means you tire more quickly and need a higher level of oxygen during exercise. One study conducted by the ARS Community Nutrition Research Group found that when magnesium-deficient women exercised4, they needed more oxygen to complete low-level activities and had a higher heart rate compared to when their magnesium levels were higher.

Anti-Aging Effects

Magnesium is critically involved in DNA, RNA and Glutathione production6. If your DNA doesn’t replicate correctly or you get shortening in the telomeres, then your cells age much quicker. Glutathione is our master internal detoxification molecule. It helps to remove toxic waste and reduces free radicals (molecules that damage our cells). Glutathione is considered the internal fountain of youth and magnesium has the ability to help boost its production.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you ensure the water is clean?

The water in our float therapy is incredibly pure, clean & hygenic. Most likely, far cleaner than any swimming pool or spa you’ve taken a dip in. Our Float has been designed with several features to continuously maintain the quality and hygiene of the water.

The main filter is capable of filtering debris in the water 100 times smaller than the size of a human hair. Additionally, the water is high in magnesium mineral which is roughly 40-50%, essentially making the water sterile. No pathogenic organisms can survive salt concentrations above 10%. Water is also pumped through a light array filter which sterilises 99.95% of all bacteria and virus materials that pass through it, taking care of any micro-organisms that survives the extremely high salt content of the water.

After each session, the whole body of water cycles through a powerful filtration system 3 - 4 times, providing our guests with the most pristine water environment possible. We regularly test and balance the water throughout the day.

I’m claustrophobic, is it for me?

This is a very common question. Our room is one of the largest as well as our float therapy is extremely spacious and inviting, purposely built to be open so not enclosed for this specific reason and we also have opted to custom build it to be more than double the size of most others so you and your nearest and dearest can enjoy floating together.

During your float, you are in complete control of the environment. To ease into it, for your first float or two you can choose to float with the light on, music or a guided meditation. You can customize your experience to suit your needs.

On a whole, floating is a very freeing experience and extremely beneficial to anyone who suffers from stress and anxiety.

I’m pregnant. Can I float?

Yes absolutely. In fact, pregnant women have used floating to relieve the stress on their bodies for decades. It is the most ideal time to float! If you’re in your first trimester or have any concerns, please consult with your doctor before booking a float.

Studies have shown that magnesium during pregnancy may be able to reduce growth restriction of the fetus, decrease pre‐eclampsia (high blood pressure and protein in the urine during pregnancy), and increase birthweight. *  Help with muscle, leg cramping and sleep.

How do I prepare for my float?

There is little you need to do but a couple of things to keep in mind. It is best to avoid shaving or waxing before floating. Please don’t float if your hair dye is within 2 weeks of treatment or still coming out. Please do not wear any hair or skin products prior to floating and we advise not to drink coffee for at least a couple of hours beforehand. Other than that, there is little you need to do except show up!

When should I arrive?

Please aim to arrive 10 minutes early and take a few minutes to settle in and ground before your session begins. Entering your float room in a relaxed state will maximize your float experience.

What if I fall asleep?

It's not uncommon for people to fall asleep, or to think they have fallen asleep. As your body relaxes and your mind restores, your brain moves into Theta state, that which you enter into as you drift between waking and sleep consciousness, or if you are moving into a deep meditation. If it happens, it's a sure sign that you need to take this rest for yourself. You will continue to float normally and lights will awaken you in the last 10 minutes. Rest assured too; it is impossible to drown in such a highly dense salt solution so enjoy the rest.

Under what circumstances should I not float?

Please do not shave or wax the day of your float. Due to the high density of magnesium in the water, the chances of your skin being irritated if it has just been shaved, is quite high. We recommend avoiding floating if you on the first three days of your menstrual cycle, if you have just had a spray tan, have open cuts/abrasions. Also, if you have recently dyed your hair, and it is running in the shower and/or present on towels when drying your hair, please schedule your session when your hair color has set, typically one-two week after your coloring.

Can I eat before I float?

Yes, a light meal is fine. If possible though try to eat a few hours before hand so you won't need to use the bathroom in the middle of your session. Also avoid caffeine a few hours prior to help you relax. It is essential to drink plenty of water after your float to help your body stay hydrated.
